Is Digital Detox Necessary? Take Quiz to Find Out!

Technology plays a huge role in our modern world, but is it destroying your freedom and contentment in life? If so, it might be time to do a digital detox and set some boundaries for your electronic devices! For starters, I am a huge fan of technology myself and I can’t lie and say it hasn’t made several aspects of my life easier and convenient. However, technology also comes at a great cost and we’ve become so addicted to our electronic devices that we’re unable to appreciate the present and the world around us.

What is Digital Detox?

Digital Detox means voluntarily disconnecting and refraining from using your digital devices such as smartphones, computers, iPads, and social media platforms. It is a great way to reduce stress, focus more on in-person interaction with others, and learning to appreciate the world around you. This method has become more and more popular as people are beginning to realize how technology has greatly impacted our lives and the way we think. Fundamentally, digital detox is disconnecting to reconnect.

Why you should try it…

Technology definitely has many upsides, it has made our lives easier and more convenient in a lot of ways! However, when you go out into a public space you will notice that more than half the people have their face locked down into a screen. Technology loves to steal our time and attention! Without noticing we find ourselves mindlessly scrolling and before we noticed we lost track of reality and valuable time. In fact, did you know that the average American spends 5.4 hours a day on their phone and millennials spend close to 6 hours a day!? Imagine how much more free time you’ll have by doing a digital detox even if it’s just for a day.

Technology has also been proven to be linked to depression and anxiety. In my past article How To Be Content With What You Have, I mentioned how social media causes us to compare our lives to others, which affects our own contentment in life and our own real-world identity. Ultimately, a digital detox will protect your health and well-being.

Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes…including you. – Anne Lamott
