6 Healthy Habits to Adopt in 2021

6 healthy habits to adopt in 2021

With the new year coming close you’ve probably been putting some thought on how you can become a healthier you. Especially since 2020 had us put our health into perspective more than ever! This new year 2021 is all about adopting healthy habits that will nourish your mind, body, and spirit. In this blog post I will share with you 6 healthy habits to adopt in 2021. You can pick and choose which ones work best for you or even try all of them if you’re up for a challenge. It is crucial to do self-care and do healthy actions every day to honor your health and body.

How to adopt a healthy habit:

Adopting a healthy habit can be challenging, but the key is to stay motivated, consistent, make it simple, and commit to it for at least 30 days. By doing these things you can easily make new that habits stick into your daily routine. You can stay motivated by reminding yourself why you’re doing it in the first place and that you’re doing this for yourself. Another trick to stay motivated is to find yourself a buddy who will go along with you, that way you’ll keep each other easily motivated.

Secondly, it’s crucial to stay consistent. The more consistent you are, the easier the habit will stick. To be consistent, try setting an alarm or doing it at the same time every day at the same place. Last but not least, make it simple and commit to it for at least 30 days. Be realistic that you can’t completely change your life in one day. If you say I want to do this habit for the whole new year of 2021, you’ll probably feel overwhelmed and end up not doing it. However, if you commit it to for at least the first 30 days of the year, the easier it will feel for you, and the more likely the habit will stick for the rest of the months to come.

Without further ado, here are my 6 Healthy Habits to Adopt in 2021:

6 healthy habits to adopt in 2021

Get plenty of sleep

Sleep plays a crucial role in your physical health as it enables the body to get restored and ready for another day. In fact, it’s just as important as staying active and eating healthy. However, most adults are not getting enough sleep on the regular basis. You should aim for at least 7 hours of sleep each night. To achieve this I recommend setting up a sleep schedule and staying consistent. If you have an iPhone I recommend setting up the “sleep” option which provides insight into your sleeping habits and monitors the amount of time you’re in bed asleep. Otherwise, I recommend just setting an alarm for getting ready for bed, actually going to sleep, and then your wake up time.

If you have problems sleeping I recommend including non-caffeinated tea in your bedtime routine. The best bedtime teas that will help you sleep are chamomile, valerian root, lavender, green, or lemon balm.

Spend more time in nature

The brutal truth is that we spend most of our time working, and then we return home where we’re distracted by our TV screen, phones, browsing the internet, watching clips and so on. However, we have to make it a habit to stop, go outside and appreciate the nature around us. If you have a hard time letting go of your digital devices make sure to read my last blog post, Is Digital-Detox Necessary and take the fun quiz to see if you need a digital-detox. Not only will spending time outside boost your happiness, but it also improves your vitality and immune system. Not to mention that sunlight is full of vitamin D which prevents many diseases.

Make time for hobbies you love

Hobbies are a great way to practice self-care and are amazing stress relievers. Doing a hobby you love will definitely enhance your life and boost your happiness, even if you can only set aside 10 minutes a day. Hobbies can also decrease depression, which helps prevent bad habits and wasting time. They can also help you in your social life and can help you create a bond with others who enjoy doing the same hobby as you. If you don’t have any hobbies, I recommend trying out a hobby that you have always wanted to try!

Eat healthy foods

Eating healthy is fundamental to good health and well-being. Make it a habit to include fruits in your breakfast and veggies in your lunch/dinner meals. Fruits and veggies are rich in vitamins and minerals that help our body feel good. If you’re not a fan of veggies, I suggest making a yummy smoothie out of them. Check out below my favorite Strawberry & Banana Breakfast Smoothie Recipe using Teami Greens Superfood powder, which includes 16 superfood green nutrients to help get your daily intake of veggies and support regular digestion. Use my unique code: SANDYRUBIANO134 for $15 off your first order of over $50! When you’re eating healthy you will definitely feel the difference and if you’re consistent you will see results in the long run!

Be active daily

You knew this one was coming! That’s right being active regularly is a healthy habit you should adopt in 2021. Exercising is not just for the people who want to lose weight or gain muscles – exercising is for everybody! Also don’t think of it as a way of “earning indulgence foods” or “punishing” yourself for eating them. Being active daily boosts your energy, improves your health and body, and even helps you sleep better! Even if you can only put aside 30 minutes a day, it is more than enough! Exercising also doesn’t mean you have to go and join a gym, unless you want to. It means finding a physical activity that you enjoy doing; whether it’s jump-rope, yoga, running, walking, dancing, roller skating, hiking, etc. The most important part is to get your body moving and have fun!

Stay hydrated

Drinking water is often overlooked as a necessity for being healthy. Did you know that the average person is dehydrated? Our body is made up of 60% water, so when you’re dehydrated your body fluids are imbalanced, which impacts how our body functions. Not only does drinking water boost your energy and focus, but it also helps with digestion,  hydrating your skin, weight loss and overall detoxification. To help you adapt this habit you can purchase or make your own goal-setting water bottle. Start small if you’re not used to drinking water and then eventually upgrade your intake. If you’re not a fan of plain water, a great way to increase your hydration is to infuse it with tea or fruits and veggies.

Read

Reading is an exercise for the mind and can help you relax. Like exercising, reading is good for everybody, not just children or young adults. It is important to adapt this habit into the new year because it improves your comprehension, vocabulary, concentration, memory and critical thinking skills. It also helps you take a break from the digital world and can even improve your sleep! These days we’re easily influenced by what it’s getting shared on the news. Therefore, reading everything will help you gain a better perspective on the current events and it also improves your communication with others.

Practice Gratitude

The year 2020 has reminded us more than ever the importance of being grateful.  Therefore we should adapt this great healthy habit into the new year 2021. Being grateful is being thankful for what you have instead of focusing on what you don’t, check out my blog post, How To Be Content With What You Have. Expressing gratitude to those around you or even within yourself will help you feel more positive emotions. It also overall improves your health, relationships and can even prolong your life!

To practice gratitude you can start saying to yourself three things you’re thankful for each morning or at night. You can also get a gratitude journal if you rather write them down. Another way to practice gratitude is to thank your loved ones or even thank nature if you’re loving the weather today. I know it sounds silly, but the universe will hear you and in return you will attract your true desires. If you find it challenging, being grateful during these troubling times, make sure to read my last blog post, Being Grateful During Covid-19.

This new year will be a fresh and hopeful start for all of us. I hope you enjoyed reading my 6 healthy habits to adopt in 2021. As a reminder, adopting a healthy habit takes time, commitment, effort and motivation. If you hit a roadblock or accidentally miss a day it is important to not get discouraged.
