How To Regain Your Self-Esteem: 7 Powerful Tactics

how to regain your self-esteem

There’s nothing more important than how we feel and think about ourselves. In life we often experience temporary set-backs where we get lost in the process and lose all of our self-esteem. In this post, I will show you 7 powerful tactics to regain your self-esteem and take back your power! Using these tactics you will not only find again your self-esteem, but you’ll also achieve inner stability and happiness.

What is Self-Esteem?

Self-esteem is how we view and think about ourselves and the worth we place on ourselves as a person. We either have it or we don’t. Self-esteem can often heavily influence your choices and decisions. Self-esteem is often linked to the confidence you have within you. It’s sad but a lot of people in our current society don’t feel their worth as humans.

A person who has low self-esteem is generally unhappy with themselves as a whole and often makes choices and decisions without putting themselves first. Self-esteem can be a very fragile concept because even if a person can seem confident and self-assured on the outside, they can be self-loathing and looking for validation from others on the inside. However, it’s very possible to thrive and get out of this situation!

How to know if you have low self-esteem…

  • You say a lot of negative things about yourself even as a joke
  • Blaming yourself when things go wrong
  • You ignore or disregard compliments
  • You often take criticism to heart and instantly become distressed and upset
  • You’re often in a gloomy mood
  • Looks for validation from others
  • Have problems standing up for yourself
  • You believe you’re less capable than others
  • You often avoid activities where you think you’ll be judged by others
  • You don’t bother to dress up neatly

7 Powerful Tactics To Regain Your Self-Esteem:

1. Change Your Thoughts:

One of the most powerful tactics to regain your self-esteem is to change your thoughts. Do not talk yourself down whenever things appear to go wrong and try to stop your inner critic from dragging you down. A great activity is for anything that you think that went wrong try to think of two positives that came from it! I also recommend reading my last blog post How to Stop Thinking Negatively, where I recommend 10 powerful techniques to help you stop thinking negatively.

2. Forgive Yourself For Things You Didn’t Know:

One of the biggest steps in regaining your self-esteem is to forgive yourself. This step often involves letting go of your past and the choices you made. We sometimes make bad choices because at the time we didn’t know any better. In order to heal yourself you need to forgive yourself and let your past go so that you can grow.

3. Be Your Own Best Friend:

Would you be your own friend with the way you treat yourself? Most likely not! Start treating and talking to yourself how your own parents or loved ones treat and talk to you. This tactic prevents you from beating yourself up and helps you start learning how to respect yourself.

4. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

The truth is that there’s always someone doing better than you or someone is better than you at something. So if you’re constantly comparing yourself to the life of others it’s a constant fight that you will never win. Instead of comparing yourself to others, place the focus on you and how you can improve. This will not only motivate you, but also raise your self-esteem. 5. Accept Compliments:

When we’re at our lowest it’s easy for us to deny compliments from others. However, in order for you to regain your self-esteem you have to let in and accept those kind words and compliments. Instead of shrugging them off or denying them simply say “thank you”. Accepting them shows that you believe they are true (even if it is not the case yet) and can make you feel so much better.

6. Be Positive:

It’s easy to fall into despair and be pessimistic about life, but if you want to regain your self-esteem it’s time to change that. Start enjoying the little things in life and when something goes wrong try your best to find the brighter side of the situation. Negative thinking will only cause you more stress and anxiety. A great idea is to also surround yourself with positive people who will help you boost your mood and positivity. Overall being a more positive person will change your life for the better and will help you regain your self-esteem.

7. Recognize Your Worth:

This step is easier said than done, but in order to regain your self-esteem you need to practice self-love and positive affirmations. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are an amazing and beautiful person. Remind yourself that you are enough and that you deserve love and kindness. Tell yourself that you are doing your best and to let go of the things that you can’t control. Say it to yourself, think it, and write it down. As you repeat this step you will realize that you will heal more and more each day, until you completely gain back your self-esteem.
