The Perfect Sunday Reset Routine

The Perfect Sunday Reset Routine: Preparing for the Week Ahead

Sometimes the end of a week feels bittersweet. Generally, we feel accomplished for everything we did during the week, yet we feel that part of our lives is falling apart. Life starts to feel hazy and messy. Laundry is piled up, your body is exhausted, the house is not in order, the fridge is empty…we’ve all been there. In this blog post, I will share with you “The Perfect Sunday Reset Routine”. Sunday is the perfect day of the week to “hit the reset button” on life. Get our lives back in order, clear our minds, and plan for the week ahead.

What is a Sunday Reset?

A “Sunday Reset” is a designated time to reset your mind and body for the upcoming week. It can be used to take care of the things that couldn’t get done during the work week such as; laundry, meal prepping, cleaning, etc. Or it can be a time to relax physically or mentally to start off the new week with a clean slate. The whole purpose of a “Sunday reset” is to make starting a busy week much less stressful.

Although Sunday reset technically already existed it became extremely popular on social media in early 2022. Around 230 million TikTok views influencers started using the hashtag #sundayreset while sharing a TikTok of them having a low-key but very productive day: Creating a healthy breakfast smoothie bowl, vacuuming their apartment, doing a face mask, lighting up a eucalyptus in the bathtub, and restocking their pantry as Etta James’ “Sunday Kind of Love” plays in the background. Therefore, Sunday Reset became a powerful movement as the most successful videos inspired others to get their life back in order.

However, to be clear there’s no wrong or perfect way to do the Sunday reset routine. The routine is all about YOU and tuning in on what YOU need. Also some of the things we see on social media although they look cool they’re not exactly realistic or practical, so keep that in mind. Lastly, evaluate your needs and design your vision of your perfect Sunday routine. It might help to write down a to-do list of the things you want to get done on Sunday. This will ensure you that you will get everything done on your list, plus it is satisfying to cross off done tasks.

The main factors of a “Sunday Reset Routine Day”:

Environment

Firstly, one of the main factors is your environment. Basically, this factor involves taking a look at your living spaces and tidying up. You won’t be able to function at your 100% for the upcoming week if your living space is falling apart, this will only add more stress to the new week. Hence, “If a flower doesn’t bloom, do you blame the flower or do you blame its environment”.

Emotional Needs

Secondly, emotional needs are conditions that must be fulfilled in order for us to feel happy, peaceful, and balanced. As humans, we need “emotional nourishment”, the same way we need food and water. These emotional needs are essential to a healthy lifestyle. Everyone has their own unique set of emotional needs. Some common ones that can be part of the Sunday reset routine are spending time with family or friends, journaling, or simply doing some self-care.

Physical Needs

Lastly, Sunday is the perfect day to get your body moving! Especially for those of us who work from home or from a desk. “Often completely underrated, exercise is the best thing you can do to give yourself that complete reset, both mentally and physically,” says David Wiener, training and nutrition specialist. Some easy ideas are to go swimming at the pool/beach, go on a walk, do some light yoga exercising, and meditate. Another important physical need is getting a goodnight’s sleep. The weekend is your best opportunity to catch up on some sleep debt. Allow your body to get some rest, so it feels ready for the week ahead.
