Hosting a virtual vision board party is trending for this coming new year 2021. It’s a fun activity to do with your close friends, family, or work colleagues. Vision boards are the perfect way to redefine goals and aspirations for the new year. They also help you feel ready and rejuvenated for the brand new year. Due to the Covid-19 global pandemic most of us unfortunately can’t be together during this year holidays, so this virtual party is the perfect activity to reconnect and celebrate the new year together. In this post I will show you how to host a virtual vision board party: you will learn everything from tools to use, agenda for the party, snacks & drinks, and tips & tricks!
The main goals of hosting a virtual vision board party is most importantly to have fun, spend quality time sharing stories/goals, and get everyone excited about saying goodbye to the year 2020 and hello to year 2021!
The Tools
- Webcam
- Video Program
- Canva to create a cute digital invitation!
For starters the main tool you need is a webcam, if you don’t have access to a webcam you can also use your phone’s camera and set it in a tripod or in a comfortable place. For hosting the virtual vision board party I recommend Zoom or Google Hangouts. These softwares let you connect quick and easy and are free to use. Lastly you will need to create a digital invitation to let your friends and family know the details of the virtual party, for this I highly recommend Canva. It is super easy to use and they have plenty of party invitation templates to choose from! You can even transform your invitation into an Instagram story template to easily send it to your chosen Instagram followers.
The Party Agenda
Welcome: To start the party you will welcome all your guests and make sure everyone has joined in on the call. You can possibly share short details about you and introduce guests who have not met one another.
IceBreakers: For some people who have never video chatted before it can be an awkward experience, so it’s up to you “the host” to eliminate the awkwardness and ensure everyone is having fun! A great way to do this is to do icebreaker activities. Here are some examples of great ways to break the ice:
- Play 2 Truths and 1 Lie: Have everyone share three fun facts about themselves. Two facts must be truths and one fact must be a lie. Have the group and yourself guess which is the lie.
- Home Treasure Hunt: Get your guests out of their seats by giving them 25 seconds to fetch something red or find the weirdest thing in your home, then bring it back to show everyone. This activity is fun and can reveal fun facts about your guests.
- Take a Creative Group Photo: Get creative by taking a group photo of you and your guests- make funny crazy gestures, bring your kids or pets, get creative!
- Ask a Fun Question: Get to know your guests by asking them a random fun question. Example: If you could have any superpower what would you choose? What is the one food you would never give up? What would be your dream vacation? This is a cool way to learn so many cool new things about one another!
- M&Ms In a Jar: Before the virtual party put some M&Ms in a jar and count them. Have everyone guess how many M&Ms are in the jar and reveal the winner at the end of the virtual party and get them a small gift for winning.
Sharing the Vision Boards: Have everyone share their vision boards and ask everyone what their main goal for the new year is and what are their short term goals. Share ideas on what would be the ideal place to hang the vision boards. An optional idea is to instead do a live tutorial for your guests on how to create a vision board online. It is completely up to you how you want to do it!
Farewell: Say farewell to one another by cheering with some wine or champagne. During the farewell you can have everyone say one thing they’re grateful for from 2020. Check out my last blog post: Being Grateful During Covid-19. Overall the party should last 1 hour to 2.5 hours max if the conversation is flowing easily.
Snacks & Drinks:
Before the virtual vision board party, mail your guests a snack and drink as a gift and have them open it at the time of the party. If you’re on a budget, just encourage everyone to bring their choice of drinks and snacks into the virtual vision board party.
Snacks & Drinks Ideas:
- Wine with cheese and crackers
- Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries
- Margaritas and nacho chips
- Soda and popcorn
- Hot cocoa and cookies
Virtual Party Tips:
- On your digital invitation share how long the party will last and try to stick to that time frame. Remember to keep it short as people get easily tired sitting in a chair. The overall party should last 1 hour to 2.5 hours max
- Be flexible! Be prepared to not be able to be in control 24/7. Remember that your guests are in the comfort of their own home and you might experience some surprises! I once had a colleague bring her pet rooster on camera while on a work meeting lol!
- Be prepared for technical difficulties. Not everyone has an amazing and reliable internet connection so be patient and prepared if one of your guests is having some tech issues. Many video chatting services offer the option to connect through phone call or chat messaging in worst case scenarios.
- Keep everyone interactive! Avoid awkward silences by asking your guests open ended questions. Be respectful with one another and avoid talking over one another.
- Try to maintain on the schedule by bringing everyone back on topic if non-topic conversations runoff for a long time.
- One way to make the party more fun is to have a themed party! You can encourage people to wear their PJs or wear fun new years hats.
Hosting a virtual vision board party will not only get people excited for the new year but it would also encourage everyone to DREAM and MANIFEST their future! Creating a vision board is an activity perfect for the end of the year — when you are laser-focused on reflections and goal-setting. With the global Covid-19 pandemic the world feels pretty unknown and scary at times, which makes it a crucial time to manifest and visualize positivity into the new year. Remember that the most important part of hosting is to have fun and have a good time with your guests!
